Strengthening Connections Between San Antonio and Mexico

Expanding air connectivity to Mexico remains a key focus for SAT, according to Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation Department.

"We are thrilled to see our partnership with Volaris continue to grow," said Saenz. "These new routes will not only make it easier for travelers to visit family and friends but also strengthen business relationships and encourage tourism in our vibrant region."

The introduction of these two new routes marks another milestone in SAT’s ongoing efforts to enhance international connectivity. Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris, emphasized the airline's dedication to providing affordable travel between the U.S. and Mexico.

"Our goal is to offer seamless and cost-effective travel options that keep families connected, encourage tourism, and open up new business opportunities," said Blankenstein. "With these new routes, we continue to expand our network, making travel between the two countries more convenient and accessible."

SAT’s Growing Reach in Mexico

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, SAT offered direct flights to only four Mexican destinations. With the latest additions, the airport now provides nonstop service to nine Mexican cities across five different airline partners, according to Jacob Tyler, Air Service Administrator for the City of San Antonio Aviation Department.

Volaris already operates direct flights from SAT to three major Mexican cities: Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey. The addition of Morelia and San Luis Potosí further strengthens its presence at SAT and reinforces the airport’s role as a key gateway to Mexico.
